Gearing up for the Move

The move is only two weeks away, so James and I are trying to get as organized as possible. While we're not moving far (about a mile away), September 1 is the busiest move-in day of the year around here because of the college crowd, so we're trying to mentally prepare for a couple days of craziness.

In anticipation of having a moving truck on moving day, James and I went couch shopping this past weekend, and whaddya know? We found one! It's mossy green, very comfy, it fit our budget, and it definitely beats the crummy futon we've been hurting our backs and butts on over the past year. We bought it at Jordan's.

I also finally had a chance to refurbish the coffee table I bought for $5 a couple of months ago at the Goodwill store. A few screws to fix the wobble, some sandpaper, a few fresh coats of black paint and some elbow grease later - BAM - a beautiful "new" coffee table! It's a bit large for the living room we have now, but it'll be just right in our new place.

James and I are looking forward to moving to a bigger space soon, and Emmett should be, too. It's fully carpeted for the little guy to crawl around to his heart's desire, and there's a lot more room for him to get into trouble.

On another note, he's really been enjoying his solids lately, and he's truly starting to get the hang of it. Here's a lovely pic of the aftermath of a meal of sweet potatoes:

When Babies Attack

I can't tell you how many times James and I have been injured by our baby. We've been headbutted, pierced by his razor sharp fingernails (I swear they're made of teeny tiny razor blades), pinched, slapped, kicked in the groin ... you name it. If you have kids or read this article, then you understand a little bit better what we've been going through.

So when I saw this MadTV sketch parody of the early 90s disaster programs Fox used to air, I totally related. Hilarious, and on some level, so true!

Emmett on a Boat

The three of us headed up to Maine last weekend for Sara's baby shower. Sara, with her cute little baby bump, got a lot of good baby loot, and we had a great time hanging out in the beautiful weather on the Maine coast for the weekend.

We also took Emmett out on his first boat ride! Although I'm pretty sure he wasn't a huge fan of the life jacket we stuffed him into. Babies have no necks to begin with, and when you put them in a life vest (which makes normal people lose their necks), they lose the lower half of their faces, too. But man is it ridiculously adorable ...

I also took Emmett to his 6-month checkup yesterday. He's up to 18 lbs. 3 oz. and 28 inches "tall" now! We also got the go ahead to start him on fruits and veggies, too! Applesauce and butternut squash, here we come!

Mr. Independent

The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind. We had the Fourth of July (which was a lot of fun - Emmett almost stayed awake through all the fireworks), Gus was born and I've been super busy with work. I finally got around to taking Emmett with me to HubSpot (the company I work for) one day, too!

Oh yeah, and it's as if because Emmett is 6 months old now (I know, half a year? SO hard to believe!), he thinks he's become Mr. Independent or something. Our little trick of feeding Emmett with the aid of the Boppy no longer works. Instead, he wants to try to hold the bottle and feed himself. I guess he doesn't need me anymore ...
