Manbabies, Just Shootin' the Poop

Posted by Pamela Vaughan

James found this wonderfully funny video on College Humor this morning. Just another example of people's seemingly odd obsession with manbabies. Anyway, I couldn't help but share it with you. What do you think, would Em fit in?

Emmett Rocks Tummy Time & Meets the Fam

Posted by Pamela Vaughan

Mar 27, 2009 12:44:41 PM

As I mentioned yesterday, Emmett met a lot of his extended family members last week in Pennsylvania. He also did a little bit of dancing (in his brand new Converse sneakers, just like dad's!) ...

We even learned that Em has an alien in his chest. The alien emerges whenever Emmett has the hiccups ...

Finally, Emmett showed off to the family by performing his best session of tummy time yet!

I think it's safe to say the little guy made a pretty good first impression :)

A Shower for Adrienne and Gus

Posted by Pamela Vaughan

Mar 26, 2009 12:22:25 PM

So much to blog about! It's been a busy past couple weeks - a visit from my sister, Adrienne and my brother-in-law, Mac; a trip with Emmett to New Jersey for Adrienne's baby shower; and Emmett's first run-in with the extended family - second cousins, great aunts and uncles, great grandparents. Plus, I'm back to work. Rather than overwhelming you with the past couple weeks' events in one long post, I'll plan on a series of posts in the next few days.

Last Saturday we had Adrienne's baby shower. We went with a spa theme, complete with candles, a hand scrub, peppermint soaked washcloths, a cool spoon eye treatment and soothing, spa-like music. Everyone had a great time, and Adrienne was showered with some great gifts for Baby Gus (and some gifts to pamper herself as well!).

Check out some of the day's events in pictures ...

The Nursery ... Finally

Posted by Pamela Vaughan

James and I finally got around to switching the crib out of our bedroom and into the nursery last weekend. It's funny, most parents-to-be have the nursery set up long before their babies are born, and it took us over seven weeks after Emmett's birth to get it together. Anyway, our apartment is finally in its final formation - hooray! Here are a few pictures, which I'll also post under the "Our Place" tab. Notice the cool stickers that form a tree on the wall. My sister, Lauren knew we weren't planning on painting the nursery since our lease is up in September and we'd have to paint it back anyway, so she gave them to us as a Christmas gift. Thanks, Laur!

Emmett Meets Dr. Stagg

Posted by Pamela Vaughan

Mar 12, 2009 2:54:05 PM

On Monday I had my six week postpartum doctor visit, so instead of making James babysit, we decided to make it a family outing. It was snowing, so we bundled Em up in his Eskimo suit (which every adult I've met wishes they had - thanks Dolores!) and headed out into the elements.

I wouldn't have cared so much about bringing Emmett and James along, but I really wanted my doctor to meet the little guy since she didn't get a chance to visit him while we were still in the hospital. After all, she was the one who made sure Baby Lump was happy and healthy in utero! Once my examination was complete and she cleared me for exercise without restrictions (yay - let the running begin!), she and Emmett had a little photo shoot. What a Kodak moment (too bad he slept through the whole thing). Thanks for everything, Dr. Stagg!

A Walk in the Park, a Stroll Through Boston

Posted by Pamela Vaughan

Mar 7, 2009 2:02:47 PM

What a day of firsts! Yesterday James and I decided that, because of today's warm weather forecast (56 degrees - spring is almost here!), we'd jump at the opportunity to take Emmett out for his first stroll in the park. I'm pretty confident in saying that Em was totally a fan. It was his first outing in the stroller where he actually stayed awake for a good chunk of the time. It was also the first time we took the stroller on the T to get downtown, and man is the T totally not stroller- (or handicap-, for that matter) accessible! If James hadn't been with me, it would've been impossible for me to go it alone.

In any event, we made it to the Commons without any bouts of crying. We took a nice long walk, strolling past the Frog Pond (Can you believe that Frog Pond ice skating is still open? What a great day to skate!), stopping at the Public Garden for a photo/video oppt., continuing along Newbury Street and on to Kenmore Square, where we stopped for another one of Emmett's firsts - a restaurant visit to Uno's. James and I each had a quick burger while Emmett ordered up his usual fare, bottled breast milk.

Needless to say, I think all three of us are looking forward to more warmer days in Boston and future outings.

The Six-Hour Sleeping Phenomenon

Posted by Pamela Vaughan

Mar 6, 2009 9:33:01 AM

Are you ready for this? ...

I GOT SIX STRAIGHT HOURS OF SLEEP LAST NIGHT!!!

I know - can you believe it? The little man was asleep from 12:30 a.m. last night until 6:30 a.m. this morning, and needless to say, it was glorious. I felt like a brand new woman this morning. Usually Emmett's sleep stints last a total of two to three hours, and before last night, the longest period of time he's been asleep was four hours (and even that was rare). I'm assuming he looked something like this while he slept ...

[caption id="attachment_699" align="aligncenter" width="593" caption="Sleepy Moose"]Sleepy Moose[/caption]

Now some of you may be thinking, "Six hours? That's what I get on a bad night." But I assure you, when you become a parent, you and I will be on the same page. For now, I'm going to chalk those six hours of heaven to a fluke so I don't get disappointed tonight when he reverts back to his two to three-hour sleeping pattern. But hey, I'm totally going to keep my fingers crossed. I'll keep you posted.

James and I are also thrilled to report an extreme increase in smile fests, and we were lucky enough to catch some of those precious little smirks on video this afternoon. Check it out (and go ahead, make fun of the high-pitched mommy/daddy voices all you want) ...

My New Resolution: More Video!

Posted by Pamela Vaughan

Mar 5, 2009 5:37:26 AM

Emmett is starting to be a lot more active now. He's getting much better at holding up his head (no more spaghetti neck!), he's awake more frequently throughout the day, his gaze seems more focused and, generally, he's a much squirmier worm. And oh yeah - he's also quite the little talker!

I've decided to celebrate this new development by resolving to record and post more videos of the little guy. Who knows - maybe he'll be the next YouTube baby star! "Charlie bit me," anyone?
