Let's All Hope and Pray I Don't Give Birth to a ManBaby

Be prepared. The Web site I'm about to share with you may either crack you up or creep you out, but I'm assuming more often than not it will be the latter. For me, I think it does both.

So basically, there's this site called ManBabies.com. It takes normal pictures of father-son interactions and superimposes their heads on each other's body. Case in point:

Creepy, right? How about this one ...

[caption id="attachment_389" align="aligncenter" width="550" caption="Backpacking ManBabies"]Backpacking ManBabies[/caption]

Pretty funny, I think. Anyway, I'll let you decide for yourself. My sister shared the site with me, and I definitely thought it was worthy enough to be featured on the blog. Hey, it can't be any worse than the Baby Shower Cake Wrecks or the Martha Stewart Halloween costumes, can it? I'm not gonna lie - if Baby Lump turns out to be a boy, I'm kind of looking forward to taking a picture of James and him and making a ManBaby picture out of it. My new laptop is fully equipped with PhotoShop. ;o)

In the interim, feel free to check out more ManBabies at ManBabies.com at your leisure.

As for Baby Lump, my last doctor appointment revealed that my baby bump is measuring slightly smaller than it should be for 33 weeks gestation (See, It's not just me being paranoid that I seem small!). Based on my too-small belly, our doctor scheduled an ultrasound for this Monday. A little worrisome to me, but on the bright side, we get more fetal baby pictures!

And there's no need for James and I to avert our eyes; apparently it's not possible for the untrained eye to tell the baby's sex, even this far along. Another cool thing is we'll probably be able to find out the exact weight of Baby Lump, along with his/her position in the womb. Hopefully his/her head is starting to point downward to make for an easy landing.

Politically Inspired Baby Names: New Trend?

Here's something fun for you to chew on in honor of the upcoming election. After I posted my call for help in naming Baby Lump last week, one of my twitter pals, @petertdavis made me promise I wouldn't do something like this ...

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1lM5JLN1hI&hl=en&fs=1]

Can you believe that guy? What a nimrod! Let me tell you, if James ever pulled a stunt like that, he'd get a lot more than two weeks in the doghouse. Let's see, which name would you give your child - Sarah McCain-Palin or Ava Grace?

By the way, I think I've come up with a pretty good boy name for Baby Lump - how about Joe Obama-Biden?

In other news, yesterday I hit a pretty big milestone, at least from my point of view. It was the first time a person gave up his seat on the T for me on account of my preggo belly. Hooray, baby bump! It's definitely becoming more substantial. Have you seen this week's pic compared to last week's? There's definitely a noticeable difference.

So I'm coming up on week 30 - can you believe it? It's getting so close! Baby Lump should now be using all five of his/her senses, his/her toenails are fully formed, and Lump's noggin is pretty much in proportion to the rest of his/her body. Baby Lump measures between 15 and 16 inches (think a loaf of bread) and weighs between 3 and 4 pounds (think a Macbook Air).

My Little Lump also seems to be a lot more active lately, as if to say "LET ME OUT!" Apparently, that's because of all the energizing fat he/she has been developing. In fact, if Lump were born sometime this week, he/she would have a 9 out of 10 chance of survival. Still, I think we'll keep him/her in there to bake a little while longer ...

Little Baby Lump: The Next Paul Bunyan?

Posted by Pamela Vaughan

First of all, I'm glad to see some of you are really getting into the birth stats betting guessing facebook group. It's been fun to track all of your (sometimes quirky) guesses. And while I doubt I'm going to give birth to a manbearpig (I guess this is what I get for the pambearpig nickname), a demigod or Paul Bunyan, I can see where you're all coming from. Given that James was almost 11 pounds at birth, I suppose it's not that far-fetched

Although it may not take five storks to drop off Baby Lump at my doorstep, he/she has done some growing in the past week. Little lump should now measure about 13 1/2 inches in length and weight approximately 1 1/2 pounds.

What's even more intriguing is that his/her eyelids are no longer fused shut (not that Baby Lump can see anything in the darkness of the womb, anyway), and his/her lungs are now capable of breathing air! This means that although Baby Lump is taking in tiny breaths of fluid in the womb, he/she could now breathe outside the womb without medical assistance.

You may have noticed from my baby bump photos that I've decided to start taking pictures from a full-body perspective. Based on the fact that some of you have been questioning whether I'm actually taking photos of my knee and not my belly, I figured it was time for a change. I think you will all get a better idea of how big Baby Lump is getting from this perspective.

Maybe you'll all also agree that Baby Lump is definitely not Paul Bunyan material.

What's With My Mini Baby Bump?

Posted by Pamela Vaughan

[caption id="attachment_218" align="alignright" width="199" caption="not me "]not me [/caption]

I've been getting a lot of comments lately about how small my baby bump is relative to how far along I am. After last week's post, my friend, Keith doubted there was any way a $5 footlong from Subway could fit in my belly. Actually, I ate one the other day, so truth is, my mini belly can actually fit two! Take that, Keith!

Seemingly, it's some kind of phenomenon. I mean, check out the woman on the right compared to me - no wonder people think I'm a freak. James laughs at me because I'll look at pictures on Baby Gaga of other women with similar due dates and get what he calls "belly envy" because I'm so much tinier than they are.

What's funny is that women who have had children keep saying how lucky I am to be so small at this point in my pregnancy. The only problem is that my paranoid self keeps worrying something is wrong with Baby Lump, even though my doctor seems to think everything is normal.

[caption id="attachment_220" align="alignleft" width="219" caption="me"]me[/caption]

I am, however, secretly hoping my lack of bump means my baby will turn out to be one of those five and a half pounders instead of one of those bowling ball-heavy babies like James was. (He was almost 11 pounds at birth!) James laughs at me for thinking this, too. Hey, I can dream ...

I'm pretty confident strangers can't even tell I'm pregnant. At least, I haven't had any random people give up their seats for me on the train or pet my belly yet. Although I'm thinking maybe the latter is a good thing.

In developmental news, Baby Lump won't really be getting any taller this week - just chubbier. Keep thinking $5 footlong, just ask the sandwich builder to stuff some more meat in there. Anyway, hooray for adorable baby fat weight gain! This week alone, he/she will be gaining half a pound, totaling 1 1/3 lbs. In addition, rapid bone formation is occuring and Baby Lump's brain and nervous system continue to grow in complexity.

Another major milestone is that Baby Lump is now at the point of viability, which means if Baby Lump would pop out of the womb today, he/she would actually have a fair chance of survival (30%-70%!). If born this week, Baby Lump would look something like this. Can you imagine? I have to start watching for signs of premature labor. Yikes!

Let's just hope Baby Lump decides to bake for a while longer, shall we?
